This paper will highlight a potentially profitable business model—supplying replacement jewelry for insured articles by using digitally based but common jewelry technologies including CAD, 3D printing and Direct Metal Laser Melting.

We were challenged by SBS Insurance Services to “replace the irreplaceable.” SBS is a specialist claims-handling provider maintaining a department dedicated solely to handling insurance claims for lost, stolen and damaged jewelry. The challenge was to recreate the lost items while delivering exceptional customer satisfaction and reduced claim-cycle times at a lower cost than our traditional methods. This paper traces a 30-month effort to meet the challenge, giving specifics of the many innovative, cost-effective and award-winning solutions now in place at the SBS Jewelry Claims Department. Included will be case-study examples.
