The paper discusses theory and applications of computerized color measuring techniques in design, tarnish measurement and quality control of jewelry alloys. The color coordinates of popular karat alloys are compared numerically with the values for gold, titanium nitride and the European watch industry standards. A description of purple gold and other unusually colored alloys is also presented.
