“The question is: How do we produce temperature gradients in flasks in an economical and reliable manner? What are the effects of vacuum being drawn on flasks before and during casting in relationship to flask cooling? What is the normal temperature drop per minute in a flask? Can we just take a flask out of the oven and set it in ambient temperature conditions for a few minutes and produce the isothermal lines that we desire?” This paper explores these questions and more.
