The effects of several commonly researched additives in two 14 karat casting alloys of different silver contents were studied. Casting was done at various tempertures using a vacuum-assisted centrifugal machine. Grain-refining, surface roughness, form filling, strength, hardness, and porosity were among the properties
evaluated.
The elements added were iridium, silicon, boron, and cobalt. It was discovered that each of the additives produced at least one change that could have practical application for the jewelry manufacturer. Iridium was the most beneficial additive overall.
