Computer programs have been extensively used in many areas such as accounting, payroll checks, order entries, sales etc. They have also found use in research and development and to study the simulation effects of investment casting, heat-transfer, development of alloys and properties etc. This article will discuss the use of computers for simple mathematical calculations for assay of gold and an expert system to determine the causes and remedies of casting defects in jewelry manufacturing. The program is menu driven and very user friendly meaning that little or no knowledge of computer operations is necessary to execute these programs. Nowadays most of the software programs are made this way. The main objective of this article is to encourage the use of computers for technical purposes in jewelry industries.
