This article describes the types of material used to manufacture precious metal chain. Specifically, karat gold, gold filled, silver and platinum are discussed, along with various methods to join chain links. Use of wire with solder core (also known as solder filled wire) is explained in detail. Typical problems that arise during chain manufacturing are examined, and solutions are offered.
