1995 - Turn Your Work-in-Process into Cash - A Workflow Exercise

Traditional methods of batch manufacturing can no longer support the need for higher quality, lower cost products requiring ever reduced cycle times. As we learned from the Japanese application of Just-in-Time techniques, the utilization of workcells, and workteams, can result in lower cost, higher quality products in virtually every industry.

The implementation of these techniques can be very difficult, especially in more traditional industries such as jewelry. The education of the workforce as to the principals and purpose of the change is as important as the physical change itself.

This exercise was designed as simple method to convey the basics of workcell design and operation in order to increase the chance of a successful implementation.
