This paper begins with a description of a production electric resistance melting process, and the attendant inconsistencies in the resulting cast product. A set of needs and desires is tempered by constraints, and forged into a goal with a coherent plan. The next segment describes the intermediate steps toward the goal, with industry-standard, small-scale induction equipment. The paper concludes with plans to refine the process.\
