A possibility for the improvement of the wear resistance of electrolytically deposited gold layers is the incorporation of hard material particles as a fine dispersion in the electrodeposited layer. The application of this technology to decorative gold coatings is the subject of research at FEM and has wide potential applications, not least for 24 carat gold jewellery production. The presentation gives an overview about the incorporation of TiN and diamond into gold layers and shows the improvement of the wear resistance under different working conditions.
