This paper presents the findings of a project jointly funded by Herff- Jones, Inc. and the State of Rhode Island to measure the performance of full-scale equipment for metal reclamation, cyanide destruction, and water purification and reuse in the plating room o f a ring manufacturer. This paper provides criteria and empirical data for the sizing of two types of waste and water management technologies appropriate to the jewelry manufacturer with a “coloring” room. These technologies are fundamental building blocks in closing the liquid loop.
