This extension of the research presented in 1994 on silicon additions to investment casting alloys explores the potential for enhancing the casting of 18-karat yellow gold. A number of elements are examined for their contributions toward enhancing fluidity and reducing gas porosity without compromising other physical properties. Results are summarized to highlight the benefits and shortcomings for six different additives employed with an 18-karat yellow gold formulation common within the trade.
