This is a continuation o f the work presented in 1995 on “Mechanical testing of Finished Jewelry and Components”. In the past two years these methods have been used for an ongoing QA procedure for various jewelry products. In this paper we present the range of experimental data on the strength of solid rope, herringbone, stampato and omega chains, and correlate the strength with the size and design features. We also discuss the factors that affect the premature breaks, and show the typical modes of chain failure.
