This paper discusses the cost, cause, and prevention of workplace injuries reported in the Jewelry Manufacturing Industry that fall into the category of repetitive motion or cumulative trauma disorders. It includes a history of our company’s experience in reducing costs associated with these injuries over a 5 year period from 1991 through 1996 as well as a synopsis of our plans for the future Our approach for implementing a long-term program with the goal of simple, cost effective solutions developed by a cross functional team will be described as well as a brief overview of Repetitive Motion Injuries.
