The experiences of a training program used for many years at Imperial Smelting and Refining will be outlined. Scope includes the specific training material used to enhance metallurgical understanding of precious metals behavior at the shop floor level. Subject matter unique to platinum handling, investment casting, induction melting and mill working of sheet and wire is covered. Detailed analysis of worker performance over a period of years illustrates how self-motivated individuals, some with English as a second language, can become superior students and long-term employees. Evaluation methods and illustrative examples are included.
