The goal of this paper is to give the manufacturing jeweler an overview of techniques useable for identifying gemstones in mass production situations. Correct identification of the gemstones, their imitations and treatments is imperative in today's market. Correct disclosure of gemstone identities and treatments is required by the United States Federal Trade Commission, thus techniques to achieve identification at the manufacturing level are necessary and relevant to the manufacturing jeweler.
