This paper presents a practical guide to the tools needed and a regimen that can be easily adopted by manufacturing jewelers to assure that only gemstones of known identity are represented and sold. This paper will show the manufacturing jeweler how to use basic gem identification instruments to greatly increase the accuracy of gemstone identification. Situations and faulty techniques that can lead to misidentifications will be brought to light so that they can be avoided.
