2004 - Jewelry and Health:Perspectives for Improvement
Nowadays, safety concepts encompass all aspects of our lives. Food, clothing, buildings, transportation, working conditions and many other aspects of everyday life are submitted to careful hazard analysis in order to minimize risks to human health. Items of jewelry come into close contact with the skin of people for a long period of time. During this period they can interact with the skin surface in different ways, depending on the individual, his/her life-style, environment and the chemical and physical properties of the jewelry. In this paper, data concerning experimental studies on metal release under different conditions will be analyzed. The study of the relationships between corrosion and aspects such as alloy composition, shape and manufacturing conditions aim to give further information on this important topic.
