2007 - Tests for Jewelry: A Must in the Development and Quality Process
Industries cannot afford to launch new products without testing them extensively for ergonomics, durability, reliability and other performance factors. Why should the jewelry industry be an exception? As jewelry pieces are worn on a daily basis by active consumers, wearability expectations have increased and the analysis of after-sales returns clearly shows poor design concepts end in cases of breakage or complete loss of products. Some very simple tests, without major investment in equipment, make it possible for manufacturers to quickly determine the durability of clasps, the resistance of chains or links, fast-aging problems and the quality of solderings. These tests make it possible to validate not only design concepts, but also various production processes. Testing is therefore a key element in the processes of conception, development, production and, finally, the analysis of clients' returns.
