In past years, the discussion about the preparation and application of nano materials has become an important part of all research strategies and promises the development of a completely new class of materials with enhanced properties. Experiments with nano materials show the properties can be changed widely but, until recently, the materials and structural effects have not been understood completely and need further investigations. The presentation gives an overview of the preparation of nano-structured materials at FEM and shows the possible applications and the properties of such materials. A special topic will be the incorporation of gold nano particles in metal matrix systems.
