2008 - PMG Pre-Finishing/Silver Kristal
This paper discusses a new PMG process system for silver and brass items. This is a mechanical garvanic system of pre-finishing that eliminates the old processes of hand or machine filing and mass cut-down tumbling. In 30 to 40 minutes, this system can do what total filing processes or 6 hours of cut-down tumbling can do, and have the pieces ready for final polish. At our facility in China (800 workers), we eliminated our entire filing department of over 100 workers and closed our cut-down tumbling department of 12 machines using this new system. This paper also provides a glimpse at a new and stunning decorative process developed by Taiwanese chemist, Ms. Yunghan Kuo. It is a fine silver crystal coming from underneath the surface of the metal and revealed to the naked eye. It is the first natural crystal application I have seen where the crystals are controlled in size and structure, giving off a reflective appearance that resembles the look of pavé diamonds at a distance. Because the process is very new and patenting is under way, specific details will not be revealed at this time.
