2014 - The Good Weld: Pulse Arc Welding for the Metal Artist, Jeweler and Manufacturer
Micro pulse arc welding is widely known to be a useful tool for basic bench tasks like ring sizing, re-tipping near heat-sensitive stones, repairing porous castings, and other bench tricks. This paper will touch on some of these bench techniques, but the main focus will be on fabricating large jewelry objects and small hollowware objects using long, consistent, repeatable weld seams. Alternative metals are being explored extensively in both the art jewelry category and by large manufacturing. Pulse arc welders are now able to weld most of these metals with ease and speed. The ability to join dissimilar metals, for example, titanium to karat gold, karat gold to iron, and more, will also be examined.
