Our journey with selective laser melting (SLM™), though brief, has covered much
territory. We have increased the safety and versatility of the processes, selected
the best set of parameters and alloys,1,2,3 and addressed the differences in the
performance of investment versus selective laser melting when creating complex
decorative elements.4 Finally, we are confronting the real-life production needs
of jewelers. The promising results have opened the possibility of applying
selective laser melting to the production of innovative materials of potential
interest in jewelry manufacturing.
