This paper is an examination of granulation in silver and gold during ancient and modern times. The exact process of granulation was a mystery to most for a large part of the 20th century. Now that we understand the process, how can we use it in our own studios? Using basic modern tools and equipment, such as a gas torch and a beehive kiln, practitioners can achieve results as fine as they desire. An overview will be provided of the concepts behind granulation and the practical information needed to successfully granulate in silver and gold.
