2016 - Personal Material Shopper: A Guide through the Successful Application of New Materials in the Jewelry Industry
Several techniques, often derived from other industrial fields, have been introduced into the jewelry field in the past 50 years. Sometimes their introduction was prophetic, as with the application of powder metallurgy of precious metals or the use of technical ceramics; sometimes just not.
As a matter of fact, the study of material science provides a huge market for engineering and production. Whether used as replicas or as genuine new media, new materials are playing a relevant role in jewelry innovation, supporting designers in the exploration of geometries or properties. The aim of this work is to analyze a selection of materials, understand their properties, and evaluate their exploitation into a jewelry piece.
