2016 - The Parts and Processes of a Rose Engine in the Modern Shop
The many design possibilities of using a rose engine start with understanding the many techniques and processes available to the modern designer and jeweler for the rose engine. Numerous accessories were originally designed and built for this machine during the 17th through 19th centuries. This paper will go into the details of how these tools and accessories are being used in conjunction with the rose engine for making modern jewelry and objets d'art. Details of cutting both traditional and modern metals, such as titanium and niobium, and their respective differences will be shared. Also discussed will be the topic of faster methods of manufacturing guilloched work (the application of decorative engraved geometric patterns on metal).
