This paper will present information relating to the three precious gemstones found in varying locations in Central and Western Queensland, Australia: chrysoprase, sapphire and boulder opal. The origins of the gemstones and the manner in which they have been extracted, marketed and promoted on the global stage will be covered. The focus will be on the sapphire deposits first discovered in the late 1890s and the boulder opal of far Western Queensland. Videos about gemstone production and presentation will be shared as well as stories about the individuals and families that have mined these products over the years. Representative gems and specimens will be available for viewing at the presentation.
