This paper and subsequent presentation will demonstrate the infinite possibilities to be realized by adding true optical color to the metal surface of jewelry. Heating a family of refractory metals can reveal incredible luminescent colors with vivacity normally only seen in natural phenomena such as rainbows, peacock feathers and oil on water. The paper will trace a 40-year path of discovery on refining the process to both control and improve the color. The results and application will be explained.
