Automated vinyl cutting and laser cutting technologies are seldom included in the jeweler’s toolbox. This paper explores a number of potential applications of these technologies in jewelry making. You will learn how cut vinyl is used for creating resists for selective application of plating, patina, etching and media blasting. Laser applications include selective removal of patina and masks used for plating, etching or media blasting as well as cutting silhouette and non-conforming acrylic dies for the hydraulic press and mill plates for the rolling mill.
